Evan Kline

On behalf of the Burlington County Fire Marshal's Office, The Burlington County Fire Coordinators and the Mount Holly Fire Department, we regret to announce the passing of Chief Evan Kline.

Evan Kline joined the fire service at age 16 in 1937. His first membership was with the NJ Forest Fire Service, where he served for 36 years and was a district warden. When he moved to Mount Holly, he joined the fire department there in 1943. During his membership with the America Hose Co. #4, he rose through the ranks from Lieutenant to Captain to Assistant Chief and eventually to Chief of the Department.

Evan had a world of knowledge in fire service. Promoting education and training was a big part of Evan's career. Not only did he take many training courses for his own knowledge, but he also was instrumental in helping create the thought and idea for our current training facility and our Central Communication facility.

Evan was the Assistant Burlington County Fire Marshal for 13 years before becoming our first full-time Fire Marshal. As the first full-time Fire Marshal, Evan was in charge of the fire training facility when it opened. At that time, he supervised two fulltime employees, five part time employees and 20 fire instructors.

Evan holds countless memberships to fire organizations on county, state and national levels. Evan was an instructor for Burlington County College, the NJ State Fire College, Burlington County Police Academy, NJ State Police and the Burlington County Fire Academy (now the Emergency Services Training Center).

Along with all of this experience, Evan also found time to be the Fire Inspector in Mount Holly for 30 years.

Some of his accomplishments:

Fire Chief - Mount Holly Fire Department 1959

Burlington County Assistant Fire Marshal 1965 to 1970

Burlington County Fire Marshal/Fire Coordinator 1970 to 1989

State of NJ, Region 3 (South) Fire Coordinator

Burlington County Deputy Emergency Management Director

He was the first President of the Burlington County Fire Marshal's Assoc.

Burlington County Emergency Services Lifetime Achievement Award

On behalf of President Jim Liberatore and the members of the Burlington County Fire Chiefs Association, we extend our sympathies to the family, friends and members of the Mount Holly Fire Department.

A Fire Department Funeral with full honors is planned.

Any fire departments sending apparatus to the viewing or the funeral, please stage your apparatus at Fairgrounds Plaza on High Street, Mount Holly.  Apparatus and personnel attending the funeral on Thursday are requested to be in place by 1000 hours at the Church.

We are requesting any fire department attending the funeral, drop their personnel off at the church by 1000 hours and then take the truck up to the Fairgrounds Plaza on HIgh Street, Mount Holly to stage.  We will use shuttle vans to bring the operators back to the church.  Also, we will be placing fire police at the plaza for apparatus security.

We will be forming uniformed firefighters in ranks to await the arrival of the hearse and the family.  At the conclusion of the ceremony, apparatus will be lined up for a procession to the cemetery.

Those departments attending the viewing with apparatus are also asked to park in the plaza, which is within walking distance from the funeral home.  Again we will have fire police officers positioned to watch the apparatus.

Please have your firepolice captains contact Capt. Steve Perkins if they have personnel available to assist.  We will need firepolice for both the viewing and the funeral.  They will be assisting Mount Holly Police with traffic diversion for the funeral procession on Thursday.

Any department sending apparatus or personnel, please send a message to:
